The Minister of Energy Álvaro Nadal will study the alternative proposal to the electricity line in Es Fornàs, with a lower environmental impact
El Minister of Energy Álvaro Nadal is committed to review the power line project is Fornàs which has caused so much controversy since its presentation. Marc Pons, Minister of Territory, Energy and Mobility and Joan Groizard, General Director of Energy and Climate Change, have met with the Minister to present a alternative plan to which it was initially developed.
Nadal has assured that will study the new proposal and will respond as soon as possible. The last project has the approval of Red Eléctrica Española and, according to Pons, it will cover the consumption needs causing a lower environmental impact.
The project
La latest proposal, elaborated by the Balearic Government, focuses on the burial of the new high voltage line, who I would change its layout to go through public lands. Also, it they would reinforce the existing towers.
It should be remembered that Red Eléctrica Española I wanted to install in the protected area of es Fornàs (between San Antonio and Ibiza) a power line with high-voltage towers along about ten kilometers. The plan contemplated the assembly of some 32 towers up to 60 meters high in an area declared as SCI (Natural Area of Special Interest and Place of Community Interest).
Neighbors, Island Council and the different town councils of the island were shown counter of this project by considering it unnecessary and exaggerated. The same consistory Sant Antoni considered it a "Serious danger" to flora, fauna and landscape and asked its citizens to mobilize to try to stop it.
At the moment the central government it is who has the last word. We only have to cross our fingers and keep hope.
