six senses ibiza returns to support the important work of various environmental initiatives through the funds of its Sustainability Fund 2023. In an act held at Six Senses Ibiza itself, its Regional Director of Sustainability Martha Cardoso announced the eight projects benefited this year by aid.
The selected projects and associations are Ibiza Produce, Alliance for the water of Ibiza and Formentera, Vellmari Association, Regenerastudio, APNEEF and Pachamama Beach, in addition to two continuity projects: Ibiza Preservation and Can Hog.
"It is a great satisfaction for us to continue collaborating with people and organizations committed to the conservation of the island's natural spaces, whose dedication and ideas are essential for a more sustainable present and future. Together, with conviction and commitment, we will be able to continue moving in the right direction: preserve our environment, adopt sustainable habits, achieve greater social awareness, encourage innovation to find alternative sustainable solutions... In short, make Ibiza a better place to live in harmony with nature”, he explained Martha Cardoso.
The Six Senses Ibiza Sustainability Fund is a non-profit project promoted by Six Senses Ibiza for the preservation of the insular natural environment and the sustainable development of the island, to which the 0,5% of resort revenue. Projects must meet at least one of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda of United Nations. The next call will open in January of 2024.
Ibiza Produce: Regenerative Agriculture
Ibiza Produce is an organization with more than 250 members that promotes the regeneration of abandoned farmland in Ibiza and that, through regenerative agriculture, seeks to achieve long-term sustainable land conservation and food sovereignty. As in 2022, this year they will organize workshops to train farmers in Ibiza to carry out holistic farm management and rotational grazing.
APNEEF: Environmental education
The Association of People with Special Needs of Eivissa and Formentera started in 2022 the project 'Environmental education for children and young people with special needs in Eivissa and Formentera', a program of recreational-educational activities in which 140 people participated to acquire habits and behaviors respectful with the environment, a project that will be repeated in 2023.
Alliance for water in Ibiza and Formentera: Water at school
After the success of the 2022-2023 edition of the 'Water at school' programme, with a total of 96 activities carried out in five educational centers on the islands, this year the educational project of the Alliance for Water in Ibiza and Formentera continues on 2023-2024 school year to teach students the value of water in the Pitiusas and on Earth.
Vellmari Association: Learn and protect
'Learn and protect' is the title of the educational-informative project promoted by Manu San Félix and Cristina Ozores to learn about and protect the oceanic posidonia and soft corals of the insular marine environment to raise public awareness about their care and conservation.
Regenerastudio: Nature regenerates
Through the 'Naturaleza regenera' project, Regenerastudio will carry out the natural restoration of six hectares devastated by fire in Cala Xarraca, replanting the area with native species to avoid soil loss due to erosion, minimize the effects of climate change through carbon sequestration and conserving and enhancing biodiversity.
Pachamama Beach: Beach cleaning
Pachamama Beach is a company specialized in the mechanical cleaning of microplastics from beaches and other inorganic waste with a triple impact: environmental, through the removal of waste scattered on the beach by the action of people, which is segregated according to its recyclable condition, returning organic material to its natural habitat; sanitary, since the use of the machine generates oxidation of the anaerobic parasites that exist in the sand; and in terms of marine conservation, by avoiding the damage or extinction of marine fauna due to the ingestion of plastics and polluting waste. This year they will clean the beaches of the municipality of San Juan.
IbizaPreservation
The Sustainability Fund will also support the IbizaPreservation program 'Protection of Posidonia', for the replanting and conservation of Posidonia oceanica, the children's summer school and a course on conscious navigation that is respectful of Posidonia.
Can Hog
Lastly, support will also be given to the Can Hog hedgehog sanctuary, an initiative by Adila Hiam to protect the island's hedgehog population that rescues hundreds of these animals so that, once they have recovered to a good state of health, they are returned to the natural environment.
