This XNUMXth-century Thursday 20 of February of 2025 at 19 pm, the Plenary Hall of the Ibiza Town Hall hosts the conference “Pere Sala, the last great corsair“, given by the Navy officer and researcher Josep Maria Prats Mari.
This event marks the beginning of commemorative activities for the 110th anniversary of the Monument to the Corsairs, opened in August 1915.
The presentation will revolve around the figure of Pere Sala, a key figure in the maritime history of Ibiza and remembered as one of the last great pirates of the island. Born in Ibiza in 1959, Josep Maria Prats Mari He is an officer in the General Corps of the Navy, a naval aviation pilot and a graduate of the Command and General Staff College of the United Kingdom. In addition to his military career, he has carried out outstanding research work in the maritime history of Ibiza.
He is the author of books such as “The bombardment of the battleship Deutschland“, from Ibiza Editions, “Pere Sala Medines, the last battle of a corsair" or "Ibizan corsairs in Gibraltar“, in which he delves into the role of the island's sailors in the siege of the 18th century.
This conference is a unique opportunity to delve into the corsair history of Ibiza and learn about the impact of these sailors on local identity.
