El Institut d'Estudis Eivissencs (IEE) organizes the 51st Ibizan Culture Course, An essential event on the island's autumn cultural calendar, which this year aims to focus on the figure of the canon, archivist and historian Joan Marí Cardona, coinciding with the centenary of his birth.
Recognized as one of the great promoters of contemporary Pitiusan culture, Marí Cardona left a deep mark as a tireless researcher, disseminator of local history and defender of the language and heritage of Ibiza and Formentera. His career at the head of the Institut d'Estudis Eivissencs between 1976 and 1994 was key to consolidating the institution and its cultural projection.
The programming is structured in four specialized talksa whirlpool bath, Roundtable, the presentation of a monograph of the Eivissa magazine dedicated to his memory and a guided route along the roads of San Rafael, his hometown. Please note that all talks will be in Catalan.
Speakers include specialists such as Enric Ribes i Marí, Josep Antoni Prats Serra, Antoni Ferrer Abárzuza or Cristòfol Guerau d'Arellano Tur, as well as journalists and friends who shared the path with him.
Attendance is free and open, always taking into account the permitted capacity.
The Ibizan Culture Course is an activity that has been organized since 1974, to study and analyze various aspects of Ibizan life, its culture, history, nature, personalities... This commemorative course is organized by the Institut d'Estudis Ibizasencs in collaboration with the Consell de Ibiza and the San Antonio City Council, within the framework of the Joan Marí Cardona Year 2025.
A tribute to one of the Pitiusas' greatest cultural icons, who paved the way for a future that continues to illuminate the island's collective memory.
