The Finnish painter and honorary professor Anita Snellman (1924—2006) discovered the island of Ibiza in 1955, following the recommendations of his fellow artists Maija Isola and Jaakko Somersalo and moved to live here, first in Dalt Vila, with his 5-year-old daughter and, later, in the countryside. During those years in the south of the island, with the simple lifestyle of those times and in contact with other great international artists, Anita Snellman was inspired by the «human drama", which was his dark palette period."

A determined and bold artist, Anita Snellman studied at the Finnish Academy of Art School at a time when it was not easy for women to enter there. She later entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and later she lived in Paris, like so many artists of the time, where she married and had her daughter.

Snellman later visited Catalonia, Barcelona, ​​Mallorca, and finally Ibiza, where she settled and bought a house in San Carlos, where she lived after divorcing her partner, the Norwegian artist Paal Kvevik. Her painting «The Ibizan» belongs to his first year on the island.

Snellman was a professor of painting at the School of Art of the Finnish Academy from 1971 to 1979, and was elected Finnish Artist of the Year in 1976 and a major retrospective of her work was exhibited at the Kunsthalle Helsinki. In 1979 she created the Anita Snellman Foundation.

The Puget Museum is now holding a exhibition for the centenary of his birth, the artist's first solo show on her beloved island, and is comprised of 21 paintings.
