San Antonio City Council remembers the life of Paco Torres with a retrospective exhibition at the White Coves Lighthouse.
Born in Cádiz, Paco Torres (1926-2000) was a well-known and very versatile artist, who throughout his life dedicated himself to painting, sculpture, illustration, writing and danceHe studied drawing and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cadiz and later at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid.
Paco was a constant worker and researcher in the visual arts, experimenting with all kinds of materials and going through sculpture, with fabrics, wood or stone, creating collages and writing poems and theatrical texts.
In 1957 he visited Ibiza for the first time and, captivated, he moved to San Antonio with his family in 1959, founding the Maria Martin and Paco Torres Dance Academy, the first dance school in the municipality, where she performed a multitude of recitals and ballets, in which she was in charge not only of the choreography, but also of the costumes and sets.
He was a member of Group 77, a famous group of artists who lived in San Antonio. As for painting, their first great inspiration was the peasants and Sailors Ibizans, although later he gave himself to the cubism, the technique he used the most. Then came the figurative and the expressionism and finally, in its last stage, it dealt with the surrealism and the abstract.
This exhibition covers from his earliest works to his latest, with a total of 68 drawings and paintings, most works unpublished, with techniques that include charcoal, ink, wax pencils, acrylics, oils and graphite.
The exhibition opens on Friday 18 2024 October at 19 hours.
You can visit it until the November 2 of 2024. The opening hours of the room are Tuesday to Friday from 17:00 p.m. to 20:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 13:30 p.m. and from 17:00 p.m. to 20:30 p.m. On November 1st it will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 13:30 p.m.
