Ibiza, the lost island of Walter Benjamin, exhibition by Cecilia Orueta

The Sala Es Polvorí in Dalt Vila hosts "Ibiza, the lost island of Walter Benjamin," a photography exhibition by Cecilia Orueta.

The cultural space It is Polvorí, in Dalt Vila, opens the photographic exhibition «Ibiza, the lost island of Walter Benjamin", a sample of Cecilia Orueta which offers a poetic look at the German philosopher's time on the island during the 1930s.

The exhibition opens on Saturday 5 2025 July at 12 hours.

The exhibition brings together a selection of images from the author's eponymous book, which was published in 2023 and presented at the MACE. It has the support of Ibiza City Council and the collaboration of the Municipal Image and Sound Archive (AISME).

Through his camera, Orueta reconstructs the Ibiza that Benjamin described in his letters: an archaic island, untouched and far from the modern bustle, where the philosopher lived one of his last periods of happiness before exile.

The visual tour is complemented by texts by Benjamin himself and the essay «To the sun", creating a dialogue between image and word about memory, time and ephemeral beauty.

As a parallel activity, the Sunday 13 of July 2025 at 12:00h, the artist will offer a conference in the same exhibition space, where he will share the process of creating the work and its relationship with the figure of the thinker. Admission is free until full capacity.

The exhibition can be visited until Sunday, August 24, 2025.

Visiting hours are Tuesday to Friday from 18:00 p.m. to 20:30 p.m., and the Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 13:30 p.m., with free admission.

A proposal that builds bridges between contemporary art, literature, and the territory.
