El Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza (MACE) located in Dalt Vila presents the exhibition 'Valkyrie Crown', of Joana Vasconcelos, a proposal full of color y symbolic component that comes to the island after having been exhibited in such iconic places as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Palace of Versailles, the Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain de Strasbourg or the Manchester Art Gallery.
The exhibition can be visited at the Armoury of MACE throughout the summer of 2023, from July 1 to October 31, 2023.
The Valkyries by Joana Vasconcelos are large-format sculptures inspired by the norse mythology deities, who flew over the battlefields to bring dead brave warriors back to life, so they could meet the gods in Valhalla.
The sculptures are made with a wide variety of fabrics, embroidered fabrics, crochet and trimmings, getting a combination of volumes, textures and colors where elements are present craft and also technological, with the incorporation of lights which, simulating vibration and breathing, give them movement and life.
Born in 1971, Joana Vasconcelos is a Portuguese visual artist with a 30-year career and famous for her monumental sculptures and immersive installations. His work updates the concept of crafts in the XNUMXst century, combining cultural heritage and high culture and questioning with irony and sense of humor issues such as the condition of the Woman, consumer society or the collective identity.
His fame arose in 2005 with the first Venice Biennale curated by women. she has received more than 30 awards and she is the youngest artist and the first woman to have exhibited at the Palace of Versailles, setting the record for the most visited exhibition in France in the last 50 years.
Since 2006 he has run a study in Lisbon with more than 50 employees and is also the creator of the Joana Vasconcelos Foundation, which supports social causes and promotes art for all.
