This winter sees the return of one of the most powerful symbolic actions experienced in the Pitiusas Islands: the Encesa de Torres, Talaies i Talaiots de la Mediterrània pels Drets Humans, an initiative promoted by the Fons Pitius de Cooperació what CONECT various points of the Mediterranean to make visible the defense of the human rights through historical heritage and landscape.
The goal is simple and deeply moving: to illuminate old watchtowers, bastions and defensive elements that for centuries protected the coast, now transforming them into beacons of memory, peace and collective resistanceIbiza and Formentera are participating once again in this Mediterranean network, adding local history to a universal message.
New this year, before the lighting ceremony, the following activities are organized free activities at each locationdesigned to bring heritage closer to the public in a participatory way: walks, guided tours and theatrical performances that allow us to get to know these unique spaces better before the symbolic moment.
The ignition points on our islands are the Far de ses Coves Blanques in San Antonio, the Torre de sa Sal Rossa or des Carregador in Playa d'en Bossa, the Baluard de Sant Bernat in Dalt Vila (Ibiza town) and the Torre de sa Gavina in Can Marroig (Formentera).
Among the preliminary activities, the following stand out: hike to the ses Coves Blanques lighthousea whirlpool bath, dramatized visit to the Sa Sal Rossa towera whirlpool bath, guided tour of Dalt Vila with a meeting in Vara de Rey and a walk from the church of Sant Francesc in Formentera, which ends with a popular food.
It all culminates with the reading of manifest and simultaneous lighting of flares in each enclave.
The event takes place on Saturday 31 of January of 2026, with activities from the morning and the collective lighting at 13:00 p.m.
A different, cultural and socially conscious plan that unites landscape, history and citizen participation in one of the most emotional gestures of the winter calendar in Ibiza and Formentera.
