Padilla died at the age of 64 in the early morning of Monday, October 19, 2020 at the Can Misses hospital. The artist had made public a few months ago that suffered from colon cancer, for which he had been admitted to the palliative care unit for a few days.
Born in Barcelona, José Padilla arrived in Ibiza in 1975 and began his musical career in Las Dalias, selling remixed cassettes. Considered the father of the Balearic sound and precursor of chill out, Padilla rose to fame in the 90s with his mythical sunset sessions at Café del Mar and with the compilation albums and other musical works, almost always starring instrumental sounds, ambient and downtempo.
