The San José City Council has decided postpone see you next year 2021 the celebration of fifth edition of the Ibiza Salt Fair, due to current limitations to mobility and the recommendations to reduce crowds, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The evolution of the pandemic has already forced most of the events framed in the popular festivals of the municipality to be suspended this year, as well as a large part of its cultural programming.
Whenever possible, it has been decided to continue holding events by reducing capacity and taking all relevant precautions, however, on this occasion it has not been considered viable to maintain the Ibiza Salt Fair, renouncing key elements such as they are interactivity and public participation in the events.
Councilor for Tourism, Vincent Rosello, has explained: “This is, again, news that we don't like to give out, but right now, the most important thing is health, and the Salt Fair is an activity that we could hardly do with the current restrictions, so the best thing is to postpone it until next year with the wish that all this bad dream is overcome ".
In spite of everything, in these days when the salt harvest season traditionally started and the Fair had to have been held, San José wants to keep the tribute to the salt industry alive. For this, everyone is invited to share images and videos on social media from Las Salinas de Ibiza and Formentera with the tag #SomunPobleSaliner. Dare to participate you too!
