Very close to Ibiza and only 8 kilometers from San Antonio is San Rafael, officially Sant Rafel de sa Creu.
This singular village has been declared "Area of artisanal interest" since in it we can find the best potters of the island, those that little by little have been creating a school. You can visit the different workshops-shops and see the clay being modeled into true masterpieces, both of Punic and traditional and modern inspiration. Every Thursday in summer (from June to September) the San Rafael Handicraft Show is held in the afternoon. It takes place on the main street and has about 50 stalls. Ceramics play a leading role, although you can also find other artisan and gastronomic products.
It is certainly a quiet place and in whose urban center we can discover very varied restaurants in terms of type of cuisine and price. This wide offer collides with the rather reduced size of the town, which makes it perfect for anyone who wants to escape the crowds.
Its urban center grew around the church of San Rafael, located in the Plaza de Joan Marí Cardona. It was built by Bishop Manuel Abad y Lasierra in 1786 and its first mass was celebrated without being completely finished in 1793. From this whitewashed church located on a viewpoint we will enjoy some excellent views of the sea and Ibiza, with the silhouette of dalt vila clipped on the horizon. On clear days, which in Ibiza are almost all, you can see to the neighboring island of Formentera.
In short it is a very quiet town of the interior, perfect for rest or to regain strength, especially if you just visited the famous clubs Amnesia and Privilege, which are just a few kilometers.
