Coastal defense towers they began to be built in the 18th century during the reign of Carlos III.
Its purpose was the creation of a defensive system on the entire coastline of Ibiza. Thanks to them they guarded the entrance of unknown ships, which could belong to the Turks or pirates, among other attackers. Generally, they are of ciruclar form, they count on two vaulted floors and the ground floor was the powder magazine.
Some of the most significant towers are: Ses Portes Tower, located on the tip of the same name, on the southern tip of the island of Ibiza; the Tower of Compte, Also known as Torre d'en Rovira, it is located in the parish of Sant Agustí overlooking the islets of s´Espartar and Sa Conillera; and the Torres d'en Lluc, which is a defensive fortification of the Middle Ages whose remains are preserved the bases of two towers joined by a wall with a thickness of 1.85 meters and 1.90, located on the cliff of Albarca in Sant Mateu (area known as els Alls).
