La Armoury of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza (MACE) located in Dalt Vila hosts for the first time a panoramic exhibition of the works of Juan Uslé, one of the most international Spanish artists and with the greatest projection in contemporary art.
The exhibition, titled "Notes on SQR", pick up 34 works elaborated by Juan Uslé (Santander, 1954) between 2011 and 2018. Uslé lives and works on horseback between Spain and New York from 1987 and is considered a true generational reference, with a work spanning more than four decades. His painting is framed within what is called lyrical abstraction, after minimalism. A synthetic and substantial representation of reality that surpasses the metaphorical.
Through memory and photography, which he uses as a record of his experiences, the artist proposes a evocation of his life through a deconstruction of referents all referring figurative and giving importance to the pictorial and chromatic aspects.
The 34 drawings which are now exhibited in the MACE are considered autonomous works, but they are also proofs of later large-scale paintings. They are organized by Uslé in groups called "Carbon and Maculars", "Syntax", "Trama", "Tapes / Freus", "Islas", "Salinas" and "Luz".
The technique used is acrylic paint, sometimes with adhesive tape and papers on cardboard.
The exhibition opens on Friday 7 2019 June at 20 hours and you can visit until 31 2019 October. The schedule is Tuesday to Sunday from 10 to 14 hours and From Tuesday to Friday also in the afternoon of 17 a 20 Hora.
