Almost 6 hectares of pine forest have been affected by fire, which has already been controlled. It is the third time in a few months that Cala Saona, Formentera, is threatened by fire
The fire that was declared on Tuesday afternoon in Cala Saona, in Formentera, has been taken for granted. According to the Institut Balear de la Natura (Ibanat), the fire has devastated some 5,16 hectares of pine forest. The causes of the flames are still unknown.
In the affected area, three helicopters and three anti-fire aircraft, a pump and more of 20 effective among brigadistas, technicians and agents of environment have worked. Also, neighbors, volunteers and workers from nearby hotels did not hesitate to help suffocate the flames by means of buckets of water or sand.
The fire started at 15.20 on Tuesday afternoon and at 15.28 the Ibanat declared 1 alert level, which meant that the fire could affect people or, for example, local houses. In fact, the Cala Saona hotel is located a few meters from this area.
This is the third time in less than two months that Saona Creek is a victim of the flames. The first was given the 20 in May while the second took place in early July.
It is expected that work will continue in the area affected by the fire today. The media will be responsible for refreshing the area to prevent the flames re-revive.
