Dogspital is the new initiative of the Can Misses Patient Safety Unit. Thanks to it the dogs will be able to visit their owners when they are admitted in the hospital
The Can Misses Hospital in Ibiza has become a pioneer in Spain in allowing its hospitalized patients to receive the visit of their pets. 'Dogspital' is the name of this curious initiative of the Patient Safety Unit. With it, they try to alleviate the concern that causes in the admitted people the fact of not being able to see their dogs during the time that they remain in the hospital center.
Days before the project was presented to the media, José, one of the hospital's patients, requested the form to take advantage of the initiative. His intention is to meet again with León, his Yorkshire Terrier, something he has been waiting for since the first day he entered, more than three weeks ago. “Stopping seeing your pet overnight is hard,” he says.
“The bond that exists between the dog and him is very strong. Since entering the hospital, León has changed his attitude at home. He is sad because he notices his absence, ”explains Antonia, José's wife, and the fact is that the master and the pet spent 24 hours a day together before José had to leave his home.
“The same day that my husband entered Can Misses León he stopped eating. She spent the day in front of the front door waiting for him to come back, ”says Antonia. Both she and José agree to be grateful for this progress since they believe that "it will serve to lift our spirits a bit at times when it is tremendously necessary not to lose it."
Thanks to the non-profit collaboration of those involved in the project, it has been possible to start up without any cost. Veterinarians, clinics, businessmen and dog educators have done their bit to make this initiative possible that will lift the spirits of those who need it most.
Building D of Can Misses has enabled on the ground zero a room where masters and pets can meet again. To benefit from this initiative, the interested parties will have to fill out a form to start the process. Once requested, the doctor must authorize the visit of the animal, which must pass a series of recognitions in one of the centers adhered to the program. The review will be free, you only have to face the price of the medication administered.
The dog should be clean, dewormed and with the relevant vaccines. In addition, it will be evaluated by a canine educator who will accompany you during the visit.
Once the control is over, we will proceed to the visit, meeting that has multiple benefits both for the animal and, above all, for the patient as it affects the improvement of their state of mind.
There is less left for Joseph and Leon to see each other again. The meeting point will be different from usual, but the illusion will be even greater if it fits after the forced separation.
